A history of reliability
Download Our Profile With a proud tradition of excellence, which dates from its founding
in 1969, Nigerian Foundries Limited (NFL) is West Africa's leading
foundry. Located at Ilupeju Industrial Estate, Lagos, the Company
originally served as a grey iron foundry, specializing in municipal
castings, water fittings and general machined castings for the engineering
industry.
In 1990, NFL
expanded its industrial base and entered into a technological transfer
agreement with Messrs. Bradley & Foster of the United Kingdom
who were specialists in wear and heat resistant alloy castings for
the cement industry.
The expansion
continued in 1995/96 with the increase in its melting output and
diversification into castings for the mining, quarrying and other
solid minerals processing industries.
A
pattern of success Equipped with the latest facilities, NFL's experienced pattern makers
get the right results by matching pattern equipment to the moulding
process. Furthermore, the Methods department is equipped with the
3-dimensional drawing software, Autodesk Inventor, while
all the necessary casting simulation is concluded on the MAVIS software.
Cast
in mould of quality
Forming the nucleus of NFL's moulding facilities are horizontal
moulding machines designed for the fast production of green sand
moulds of consistently high quality. The moulds produce castings
of international standard with weights of up to 100kg. NFL's jobbing
moulding facilities are designed to produce iron and steel castings
of up to 2200 kilograms; a versatility known only to a few foundries.
Melting
to specifications
NFL's melting facilities encompass medium frequency induction furnaces
of varying capacities from 500 to 1,000 kilograms. Monitoring of
the material produced to the required metallurgical specifications
is achieved by the use of the in-house Optical Emission Spectrometer.
This ensures that specifications conform to all international standards,
as required by the customer.
Perhaps NFL's
greatest strength lies in her ability to produce a wide range of
materials to the highest standard of quality and excellence.
Heat
treatment: the cold hard facts
NFL operates the latest in electronically controlled heat treatment
facilities complete with graphed recording instrumentation to monitor
heat treatment cycles. Water, oil and air quenching facilities are
also employed to ensure that optimum mechanical properties and grain
structures are achieved so as to satisfy the exact specifications
of our ever-expanding customer base.
Quality
that stands the test of time
For 35 years we have built an international reputation that rests
on our comprehensive quality testing procedures. Tests that include:
-
Spectrographic
testing of metallurgical compositions
-
Metallographic
testing with the use of a specialized microscope
-

NFL is serious
about her commitment to and responsibility for quality.
Machining
to excellence
NFL's machine shop deals with a variety of jobs from high chromium
pump impellers to manganese steel concave rings. We have two machine
shops and a fabrication unit that carry out a variety of jobs. These
facilities are available to our customers for their specified machining
and fabrication requirements.
Evolution
through fabrication
NFL's fabrication
shop is situated at the Otta Plant and is able to handle a variety
of fabrication jobs such as construction of planetary cooler tubes,
cylindrical vessels, silos, etc. The fabrication shop started
as an in-house unit and today handles a variety of jobs for a broad
range of customers ranging from cement plants to the
telecommunication industry. For more on Otta Plant,

region. Our services are offered to Mines, Quarries and Cement Plants
in Republique du Benin, Togo, Ghana, Burkina Faso and Niger Republic.
By the end of year 2004, NFL will be servicing the following additional
countries in the region: Guinea, Mali and Cameroon. This bold move
will definitely make NFL the leader in West Africa.
